NZEI Heritage - About
About the NZEI Te Riu Roa digital heritage collection.
NZEI Heritage presents a showcase of the history of the New Zealand Educational Institute Te Riu Roa and of education in Aotearoa New Zealand
Online users now have access to a century’s worth of New Zealand’s educational and social history through an easy online access to a rich resource of historical material from NZEI’s collection.
We can now see history unfolding through the impact of world wars, changes in fashion, photos of teachers smoking, changes in the curriculum, the impact of television and discussion on whether or not computers are here to stay.
The content reflects the changing policy, trends, people, and events in education over the past century.
The photographs, journals, and other material have been digitised to make the content available to researchers with an interest in education and social history. Everyone who has been to school in New Zealand will find something they recognise amongst these pages.
